All's Well in the Ginky Weeds

Some of you might have heard that we had a very severe storm in Battle Creek today.  We did and we have survived.  The power is out so we are running on the generator now.  Very strong winds knocked down trees all over the area.  One of the worst hit areas was near my cousins' house.  I called Billie and she said they are without power and running on generator as well.  They lost two big trees, one of which fell on their son, Scott's car.  I'm going over tomorrow to see if I can help with the clean-up.

Closer to home, there is a big tree down right across the road from our house.  Some of the branches had to be cut to allow cars to pass in one lane.

And we know why the power is out.

Those red flashers in the distance are on a fire truck that is blocking traffic from going through about a half mile from our house.  There is a big tree down and it took a power line down with it.  I talked briefly with the volunteer firemen and they said that Newton Township has over 100 calls in to Consumers Power for downed power lines.  So we expect it will be awhile before our power is restored.  We've got about 200 gallons of propane in the tank and can get more if we need it.

Just heard from Mike and Kristen that they had a near miss with a couple of large limbs that landed near their deck.  And they have no power either.

Saturday at the Zoo

Perfect day for visiting the zoo! Not too hot, not too cold, overcast but, finally, no rain!

We had lotsa fun and even got to see a whole bunch of edipants!

We all looked younger back then, didn't we? And it was nice to still have Grandpa Pennell and Grandma Miller with us at that time.
